Shurei No Mon – 2nd Main Gate at Shuri Castle 2019
At Kiryoku Dojo we practice traditional Okinawan Shorin-ryu Shorinkan Karate and Kobudo as taught by our late Grandmaster, Shugoro Nakazato “Hanshi JuDan” and now, his son, Hanshi JuDan, Minoru Nakazato.
We are Nationally affiliated to the Shorinryu Shorinkan Association under the leadership of chief instructor and president for South Africa Kyoshi Claude Johnson (8th Dan) and Internationally to the Association in Naha, Okinawa Japan headed by Hanshi JuDan, Minoru Nakazato. (10th Dan)

HISTORY
Shorin-ryu karate is one of the major branches of karate born out of the fighting forms, techniques and traditions practiced in the Shuri and Tomari villages of Okinawa. A blending of both Chinese and native fighting methods that include simple strikes, vital target/pressure point attacks and stand-up grappling.
KATA
Kata is the practice of karate “movement” and “sequences”. The aim is to practice and develop fighting rhythms and techniques, also developing muscle memory to enhance speed and effectiveness when executing against a partner.
KUMITE
Kumite is important to judge and perfect correct distancing in attack or defence, also learning to use correct attacking tools to target for effective defence.
