About the Dojo
Kiryoku Dojo was born from Sensei France Harington’s desire to ignite a spark for the love of karate in ADULTS as she had embarked on this journey as a beginner adult herself.
Hence, the Dojo opened its doors in 2016 at the time catering exclusively to adults. However, in January 2018 Sensei France decided to offer classes for children/teens.
“When some of my adult students showed interest in introducing karate to their children, it became apparent that this would be a great opportunity to bring this life skill and lifestyle to the whole family, a necessity in my opinion in today’s crime-ridden and bullying society,”
Kiryoku Dojo however will always continue to have a dedicated Adults Only class as the focus, understanding and mindset of an adult allows for advanced teaching and learning of concepts and a more functional karate experience. With the Kids Classes now well established Kiryoku dojo encourages families to bond and train together bringing the love of this lifestyle to all.
Our focus is on building on the strong fundamentals of karate and on teaching practical self-defence skills.

Self-defence skills
Skills that teach all that we are capable and allowed to protect ourselves when it is needed, not to be the bully but to have a voice and the strength to be effective in your defence when needed.
Respect
Learning to respect yourself, your teachers, peers in the dojo gives a great foundation to carrying that through to adulthood and life.
Leadership
Students gain this fundamental life skill as in the dojo all students are encouraged to help and be role models to those who follow them.
Main goal of training karate is to learn to apply it EFFECTIVELY – focusing on honing skills with the aim to train muscle memory to react with correct technique to defend oneself if the need should arise. Learning to use the right attacking tool to target and reacting – either defensively, control, striking or distancing. All these aspects make it a life time journey of gaining knowledge.
